The Top 10 List (Minus1) of Rides at the Magic Kingdom In Walt Disney World

What nine rides or experiences would you choose at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World? I know these lists are supposed to be top 10 but there is a method to my grumpiness.

Walt Disney World tracks the average number of rides a guest rides. Want to take a guess what that magic number is? You guessed it! It is nine. You are doing great. Below are the nine I would chose. They are not necessarily in order and of course real life conditions like Fastpass and wait time change things but I think you get the idea.

So what are your nine? List them as a comment of put them on our official facebook page!

Pirates of the Caribbean: There is just something about that catchy tune that keeps me coming back again and again. Sometimes I ride it more than once per day!Pirates Of The Caribbean Sign

Jungle Cruise: The corny jokes still make me chuckle and I just love the scenes and the scenery! Good job recreating the jungles of the world in the Florida swamps!Disney World's Jungle Cruise 14

Big Thunder Mountain: It’s a roller coaster with animatronics. Need I say more?

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Splash Mountain: Have you noticed that it gets hot in Florida? This one will cool you off with that big splash at the end. Love the animatronics too though some don’t work well and some don’t work at all. Still I have to ride it.

Splash Mountain 10

Space Mountain: Just a fun time and amazing how 28 mph feels much faster in the dark with the wind in your hair. (Did you know that is the top speed?)

Space Mountain

Mickey’s Philharmagic: Music! Music! Music! Love the 4D effects! Oh did I mention I love the music?

Walt Disney World Mickey's Philharmagic 01

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin: I get to shoot stuff! Nuff said. Though this one dropped down some because last time I rode it Mrs Grumpy beat me!

Carousel of Progress: History brings me to this one. I love it. I love to remember how people used to live. Plus this is one Walt himself loved. As an added bonus you get to sit down for a while in a nice climate controlled environment!

Swiss Family Robinson Tree House: Loved the movie and love seeing it brought to life!

Where In Disney World?

If you are looking at this, where are you in Disney World?

Tumble Monkey Wins Medal At The Olympics!

Okay maybe a tumble monkey, part of the talented cast of the Festival of the Lion King, did not compete in the Olympics this year. But one of the current tumble monkeys started his career out as an American Olympian. And he did win bronze. It just wasn’t this year.

Joey Hagerty, one of the famous monkeys, actually won a bronze medal in 2008 at the Olympics in Beijing. Watch the video to hear from him.

So I wonder which is more exciting? Competing in the Olympics or working at WDW in the best show they have. I know what I think.

Maurice Has A Magic Mirror?

At Walt Disney World anytime something is added there seems to be, unfortunately, something that has to go away. While sometimes this leaves us a little sad because a beloved attraction goes away, like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, it is a necessary part of making room for something that is new (and hopefully better!)

When WDW Imagineering announced the huge Fantasyland expansion two of the things they noted that was destined for the used to be were Snow White’s Scary Adventure and Story Time With Belle.

But neither Snow White nor Belle were going to be completely forgotten. Snow White was going to be remembered through the Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train and Belle was getting an expanded and much improved story telling gig called Enchanted Tales With Belle.

Videos of the Seven Dwarf’s have already been featured here at grumpymickey.com but today we bring you a glimpse of Belle’s new venue. Enjoy the show!

Has Simba Been Put On the Endangered Species List?

Can you feel the love tonight? Well if you can’t you may be out of luck (at least temporarily) if you are a love the Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Rumor has it that the Festival  may be going away at least temporarily.

According to some sources, whether reliable or not remains to be seen, the Festival of the Lion King is scheduled for a temporary shut down in January of 2013.  The supposed plan is to make way for Pandora, the Avatar themed expansion.

If this is the case it will be a sad day for Grumpy. The Festival of the Lion King is one of the best shows at Walt Disney World. It is filled with music, acrobatics and drama. There is even a little crowd participation.

It may just be a rumor though! After all Disney went to a lot of trouble to enclose and air condition what used to be an open air theater. So we can hope that this rumor is completely false.

Of course Pandora itself is the source of a lot of rumors.

The rumors include where it will be situated in the Animal Kingdom. Speculation at first was Camp Minnie Mickey. This makes sense because Camp Minnie Mickey was an after thought when the Beastly Kingdom was cut because of budget overruns in the rest of the park.

Then a rumor involving Rafiki’s planet watch emerged. These rumors involved some permits issued for that particular area.

As of now, there is no official confirmation of where the land of Pandora will be.

The craziest rumor out there is that the entire expansion has been put on hold because of disagreements between James Cameron and Disney.

If the expansion goes on but Avatar is out it wouldn’t break my heart or a lot of others who were never enthused about Pandora. I  was considerably let down when they announced the tie-in would be Avatar.  Haven’t seen the whole movie. Have no desire to do so. There were so many better themes for a Disney park and the top choices in my book would not have required Disney to shell out so much money for a license.

And Grumpy is not alone in that disappointment.

So if this rumor is true, let’s hope  it’s completely true and the closing is only temporary.

A Dinner Fit For A Beast!

While Disney may not encourage you to eat like the Beast, they are proud to announce that you can eat with the Beast! Well maybe not exactly with him but in his castle. To that end they developed the soon to be opened Be Our Guest Restaurant  in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

This eatery is part of the new Fantasyland Expansion and will be opening on November 19, 2012.

Guests will eat in one of three scenes from the classic movie: the West Wing, the Rose Gallery or the Ballroom. Each room will be decorated with all the attention to detail that guests have come to expect from Disney over the years from chandeliers, falling snow and life size representations of the Beast himself as well as Belle.

The restaurant itself is counter service during lunch and table service at night.

The menu is inspired by the movie and includes:

Lunch Menu:

The Fantasyland Expansion Announcement at D23

The Partners Statue during Wishes

Like the Partners statue on Main Street there are something that just seem to go hand in hand with with Walt Disney World. Certainly some of the things that go hand in hand with Walt Disney World are dreams, wishes and magic. But there is another thing that is equally connected to the wonderful world that Walt envisioned: the rumor mill.

Disney rumors abound. This park is getting an expansion. This park is being shut down. A new park is opening. Like everything else you read on the internet you cannot put much trust in something that some body heard from a friend who has a cousin whose dog once stayed at the house of a cast member. But every once in a while the rumors are true.

One such rumor that was true was the one about Fantasyland getting a major update. On September 12, 2009 these rumors were confirmed at a D23 meeting.

The original plan called for a doubling of the size of Fantasyland and was heavily geared to showcase Disney princesses in their own environment. Sights, sound and magic would be heavily emphasized in true Disney fashion. Read the rest of this entry
