Lightning McQueen Racing Into the Hollywood Studios?
Before you get too excited you should know this is just an internet rumor at the moment which means it may be no more likely than a prince from Africa offering to make you rich if you send him money so he can get of his.
That being said the rumor is this: Cars Land will be recreated in some fashion at Disney’s H0llywood studios.
While this is certainly just a rumor at this stage there are come compelling reasons to think it might be true.
For example a certain wizard moved in down the road from Walt Disney World and though he might not be drawing away all of the crowds from Disney he is competition. One must wonder how much of the Fantasyland expansion and the announced Avatar land resulted from the addition of Harry Potter to Universal Studios. Adding Cars to Hollywood Studios could just be another step in the continual competition between these two theme park giants.
The new Cars Land related attractions are rumored to be headed for the site currently occupied by the Lights, Motor, Action Stunt Show. This show is costly to run by all accounts and does not run continually. It might be more cost effective and more crowd pleasing to replace it several Cars themed attractions as well as the inevitable shopping and dining experiences.
Hollywood Studios is currently woefully inadequate in the attractions area. Sure the attractions they do have tend to be top notch but there are not that many of them. Of the four parks at Walt Disney World this one ranks third in attendance figures. Only the Animal Kingdom is behind it and there is already a major expansion on the way there.
Finally, and perhaps most compelling, Kathy Magnum, the principle designer of Cars Land at Disneyland is moving east to take a new job at Walt Disney World as the Executive Producer, Walt Disney World Portfolio. Given the initial success of Cars Land at Disney’s California Adventure it would be no surprise if Disney runs with it in their other parks as well. It’s not like it would be the first time Disney transplanted success from one place to another.
But what would Cars land look like at Walt Disney World? That’s the hard part to analyze. Hopefully it would not be an identical copy of the California edition. In fact there is no reason for it to be. There is a lot more space at Hollywood Studios to do it bigger and better.
Still the Cali edition can give us some clues. There are three attractions at Cars Land: Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, Luigi’s Flying Tires and Springs Racers.
The Mater attraction features Mater singing and seems to be someone’s idea of what square dancing would be if it were done by tractors pulling wagons. The wagons swing back and forth as the tractors move through a small area. It’s hard to explain so watch for yourself here:
Luigi’s Flying Tires at first looks like a pretty straightforward bumper cars ride. But it has a few extras in it. Like that fact that you are actually flying. Well floating it is a better term. All the action takes place in your own personal hovercraft. You don’t get much speed out of these tires so there isn’t a lot of hard core bumping action. Instead there are a bunch of beach balls thrown into the mix and you can bump them at each other.
The final attraction is without a doubt also the best, Radiator Springs Racers. At first it is very much like any Disney dark ride, even though it isn’t always in the dark or even inside. It’s a tour through some of the sights and characters of Cars the movie. You will even get to tip tractors and meet Frank. Then it becomes a true race as you and another car full of racers pull up to the line and wait for Luigi’s signal. Then it’s off to the races. Literally. Kind of resembles Test Track at Epcot except two cars are going side by side.
Of course there is no promise any of these would make to Hollywood Studios. In fact there is no promise that Cars are coming to Hollywood Studios at all. But we can hope right?
