Tumble Monkey Wins Medal At The Olympics!

Okay maybe a tumble monkey, part of the talented cast of the Festival of the Lion King, did not compete in the Olympics this year. But one of the current tumble monkeys started his career out as an American Olympian. And he did win bronze. It just wasn’t this year.

Joey Hagerty, one of the famous monkeys, actually won a bronze medal in 2008 at the Olympics in Beijing. Watch the video to hear from him.

So I wonder which is more exciting? Competing in the Olympics or working at WDW in the best show they have. I know what I think.

Maurice Has A Magic Mirror?

At Walt Disney World anytime something is added there seems to be, unfortunately, something that has to go away. While sometimes this leaves us a little sad because a beloved attraction goes away, like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, it is a necessary part of making room for something that is new (and hopefully better!)

When WDW Imagineering announced the huge Fantasyland expansion two of the things they noted that was destined for the used to be were Snow White’s Scary Adventure and Story Time With Belle.

But neither Snow White nor Belle were going to be completely forgotten. Snow White was going to be remembered through the Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train and Belle was getting an expanded and much improved story telling gig called Enchanted Tales With Belle.

Videos of the Seven Dwarf’s have already been featured here at grumpymickey.com but today we bring you a glimpse of Belle’s new venue. Enjoy the show!

Has Simba Been Put On the Endangered Species List?

Can you feel the love tonight? Well if you can’t you may be out of luck (at least temporarily) if you are a love the Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Rumor has it that the Festival  may be going away at least temporarily.

According to some sources, whether reliable or not remains to be seen, the Festival of the Lion King is scheduled for a temporary shut down in January of 2013.  The supposed plan is to make way for Pandora, the Avatar themed expansion.

If this is the case it will be a sad day for Grumpy. The Festival of the Lion King is one of the best shows at Walt Disney World. It is filled with music, acrobatics and drama. There is even a little crowd participation.

It may just be a rumor though! After all Disney went to a lot of trouble to enclose and air condition what used to be an open air theater. So we can hope that this rumor is completely false.

Of course Pandora itself is the source of a lot of rumors.

The rumors include where it will be situated in the Animal Kingdom. Speculation at first was Camp Minnie Mickey. This makes sense because Camp Minnie Mickey was an after thought when the Beastly Kingdom was cut because of budget overruns in the rest of the park.

Then a rumor involving Rafiki’s planet watch emerged. These rumors involved some permits issued for that particular area.

As of now, there is no official confirmation of where the land of Pandora will be.

The craziest rumor out there is that the entire expansion has been put on hold because of disagreements between James Cameron and Disney.

If the expansion goes on but Avatar is out it wouldn’t break my heart or a lot of others who were never enthused about Pandora. I  was considerably let down when they announced the tie-in would be Avatar.  Haven’t seen the whole movie. Have no desire to do so. There were so many better themes for a Disney park and the top choices in my book would not have required Disney to shell out so much money for a license.

And Grumpy is not alone in that disappointment.

So if this rumor is true, let’s hope  it’s completely true and the closing is only temporary.

Grand Opening of the Fantasyland Expansion!

No doubt you, like all other Disney loves the world over, have been anxiously awaiting the opening of the new Fantasyland attractions. Well they are not all open yet but Disney has set a date!

Disney has announced a big event set for December 6, 2012 that will include the official opening of several new attractions!

Mermaid lovers will finally get to go Under the Sea with Ariel. The little mermaid will also be featured in Ariel’s Grotto for picture taking opportunities.

For those with a Beastly appetite the new Be Our Guest Restaurant in Beast Castle as well as Gaston’s Tavern and Bonjour! Village Gifts will be open for business.

Unfortunately not everything will be ready to go on December 6th. We will have to wait till 2013 for Princess Fairytale Hall and 2014 for the Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train. But don’t look at it like a delay just an excuse for more trips to Disney World.

Lightning McQueen Racing Into the Hollywood Studios?

Before you get too excited you should know this is just an internet rumor at the moment which means it may be no more likely than a prince from Africa offering to make  you rich if you send him money so he can get of his.

That being said the rumor is this: Cars Land will be recreated in some fashion at Disney’s H0llywood studios.

While this is certainly just a rumor at this stage there are come compelling reasons to think it might be true.

For example a certain wizard moved in down the road from Walt Disney World and though he might not be drawing away all of the crowds from Disney he is competition. One must wonder how much of the Fantasyland expansion and the announced Avatar land resulted from the addition of Harry Potter to Universal Studios. Adding Cars to Hollywood Studios could just be another step in the continual competition between these two theme park giants.
